Biography of

John Andrew "Andy" Love

MGenLove

I left Cheyenne Mountain School following the 8th grade to spend two years at Fountain Valley School before moving on to graduate from the Choate School in Wallingford, Conn. I returned to Colorado Springs to graduate from Colorado College. I joined the Air Force, earned my wings in Arizona and spent the next 37 years in the USAF and the Colorado Air National Guard. I retired in 2004 as a major general. While serving as a citizen soldier in the Guard, I spent a career in commercial real estate and banking. Following retirement from the USAF, I served for three years as the Counselor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC. I am now retired. I am married to a beautiful girl from Texas, a graduate of Texas A&M. My Texas Aggie is a very strong woman who for 25 years was a lobbyist at the state capitol. She historically lobbied on behalf of business issues. I am engaged for much of my time in fishing and riding competitions.

2022 update:As a member of the Colorado National Guard, I was mobilized following 9/11 (I happened to be in the Pentagon on 9/11) and was one of the initial cadre of general officers who were called upon to stand up our national homeland defense command, called US Northern Command. Following my retirement 3 years later, I served for four years as Counselor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. A long-time friend who had recently assumed the role offered me what became a singularly unique experience. When the administration changed in Washington, I returned to Colorado to a – mostly – retired life. I formed an annually offered leadership development program in 2011 for high potential future leaders of the Colorado National Guard, serve on the board of several not-for-profit organizations and spend as much time as I can on my horse or waving my fly rod in the air. My wife continues to toil as a lobbyist at the Colorado state capital, an occupation of diminishing returns. With the demise of COVID, we are planning as many trips as the calendar will allow over the coming months.
