God and the Needed Parking Spot

One day a man wakes up late for a new job interview. He quickly takes a shower, grabs some breakfast, and gets into his car. He has a terrible ride downtown and is running close to his appointment time. When he finally gets to his destination, he can't find any parking places. He is driving around the block in a panic and, worse yet, it looks like it may rain. Even the skyscrapers lining the streets he is driving on look menacing and seem to be forming a walled barrier against him. He looks and looks, but he just doesn't find any spot to park.

Finally, making the last possible attempt to find a spot and be on time, he prays in a broken voice and close to tears: "God if you find me a parking spot, I'll go to worship services every week and I will never lie again."

As he makes a right turn on to the street of the building he seeks, a sudden gust of wind blows down the urban canyon and makes a sound like an organ or a distant choir. Just then there is a mighty clap of thunder and the black foreboding clouds open up a small fissure in their ominous darkness. Through the clouds' fissure a beam of light shines down on a blue Toyota sedan parked right in front of the applicant's building and just as he approaches, the Toyota's driver hops in and pulls out just in front of the applicant's car and speeds off down the street leaving the open spot with lots of time still on the meter.

Our applicant, now joyous and excited, whips into the spot triumphantly and says: "Never mind God; I found one on my own!".
